The Sunday Post: Born Again

It is time to get your minds right. The hype is building. Daredevil: Born Again is less than 48 hours away. If you missed it last week, Kyle and Robby recorded a full-length “Saga So Far” episode and a brief YouTube “Screen Recap” to help you prepare. The final podcast covering season 3 of Netflix’s Daredevil will be released as a freebie tomorrow on the main feed.

Kyle and Robby have seen the first two episodes and recorded their reaction podcast yesterday. By the time you finish watching on Tuesday, Kyle will have it edited and posted on YouTube and everywhere you can get podcasts. FFW+ members can look forward to some bonus podcasts coming very soon, as well.

But for now, all eyes are on the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Now over to…

THE WATERCOOLER

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

  • The Daredevil: Born Again World Premiere was in New York City last week, where the first two episodes were shown, and the immediate social media reactions were extremely positive. Since then, critics have received all nine episodes for review, and full season reactions remain strong. The embargo on complete reviews will be lifted Tuesday night at the same time the episodes are released on Disney+.

  • Season 2 of the show officially began filming on Friday in New York City, and according to Deadline, Matthew Lillard has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Showrunner Dario Scardapane revealed that season two will consist of 8 episodes.

  • After production on several rumored series for Marvel Television were paused just over a week ago, fans got some good news this past week. Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed that Jon Bernthal will write and star as Frank Castle (The Punisher) in a Marvel Special Presentation. The director, and Bernthal’s co-writer, will be Reinaldo Marcus Green (We Own This City). Head of Marvel Television Brad Winderbaum called the special a “shotgun blast of a story.” This special and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again are expected to come to Disney+ in 2026.

  • The World Premiere of the Netflix movie The Electric State (directed by the Russo Brothers) was held in Los Angeles last week, giving the pair a chance to update the world on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Speaking to Deadline on the red carpet, Joe Russo clarified the shooting schedule and what brought the brothers back to the MCU.

“It’s all in London, we’re shooting them fairly back-to-back, it’s a lot of work again, we may or may not survive, we’ll see. But we’re very excited about it. We found a way into the story that we think is gonna be challenging for audiences, it’s challenging for us to execute. And it’s really exciting for us, it gets us out of bed to do it.”

  • In an interview with The Playlist, Anthony went even further into detail.

“Look, what you’re describing is like one of the most valuable aspects of the experience for us as fans and as storytellers. So, we lean into that in a strong way and we really feel like [the connective throughline is] one of the most unique things the MCU can do that other forms of cinematic storytelling can’t do. Part of the reason why we became reactivated—like Joe was describing in terms of like falling in love with a story that we felt was powerful and needed to be told—is exactly what you’re describing is that there is a narrative through everything. Even that portion of the narrative that has been unfolding since the end of ‘Endgame.’ We’re hopeful that we can pick up the story in a way that kind of honors what’s happened between now and then, but also moves it forward.”

Anthony Russo
  • Winderbaum also heaped praise on the upcoming Wonder Man series expected to launch in December, calling it “the best show no one’s ever seen” while speaking to Steven Weintraub at Collider.

"Wonder Man is eight episodes. It's a very new flavor for Marvel. It's straight from the minds of Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Honestly, it is one of my favorite things ever. I think it's the best show no one's ever seen, and I’m very excited to see the audience reaction to it. I think it's a love letter to what we do as filmmakers. It's a love letter to acting as a profession, and it's a very sincere, beautiful show."

BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

  • Rumors were flying last week that Kathleen Kennedy plans to step down as the President of Lucasfilm later this year. While she later pushed back on those claims, there is still a belief that she could be stepping down from her current role sooner rather than later.

After those rumors started to circulate, The Hollywood Reporter looked at possible successors to Kennedy. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was listed as a candidate, with THR going so far as to say that “many insiders believe he is the best candidate for the job.” Would Feige leave Marvel in favor of Star Wars? Or would he try to juggle leading both studios? Or would he politely decline the opportunity if presented?

TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK

  • When one door closes, another one opens. Fans were discouraged a week ago when Marvel Television declined to put a trio of shows into production. But here at Friends From Work I have heard that one reason for that decision is to fast-track another previously unmentioned series into production. My source indicates Marvel is circling a 3-part miniseries about Hyperion, a Superman-esque character who plays a critical role in Jonathan Hickman’s “Avengers” comic that leads into “Secret Wars.” I’ve heard the studio wants to roll cameras on this series later this year, so should this rumor have legs, it may not be long before something is confirmed.

That’s a wrap for this week. Don’t forget to follow Friends From Work on all social platforms, and subscribe to our YouTube channel. Join us on Discord Tuesday night for live reactions and discussion about the two-episode premiere of Daredevil: Born Again. Have a great week, everyone!
