The Sunday Post: A Vision for the Future

Hello friends, and welcome back to a jam-packed edition of The Sunday Post. New York Comic Con ended today, and it was as newsworthy as I predicted and fans had hoped. I am also on a quick family vacation this weekend, so I’m not going to waste any time getting straight into the news; just a quick reminder that Kyle and Robby will be back this week with a new main feed episode on Thursday, as well as a unique new episode on FFW+ tomorrow!

Now…

THE WATERCOOLER

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

  • Wonder Man unveiled its first trailer and poster at New York Comic Con on Saturday. The 8-episode series premieres on January 27th at 9 pm EST. In an extensive, exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel’s Head of Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, described the show as a “two-hander” between stars Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.

  • Sunday at NYCC, Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix) confirmed that he has an undisclosed role in Wonder Man.

  • Daredevil: Born Again shared a first-look trailer for season 2, introduced by Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter to audiences at NYCC. Winderbaum shared with EW how the show co-exists alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next movie slated for release from Marvel Studios—the second season is set to bow in March 2026.

We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there's coherence there. We don't want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important. We're in a shared universe together, but I would say just the Daredevil comic books, the Punisher comic books depicted a certain tone and an idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man's, but they both exist in the same universe. It's similar. Everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we're able to tell different stories.

Brad Winderbaum to Entertainment Weekly
  • Winderbaum also revealed that Matthew Lillard will be playing a New York power broker named Mr. Charles in the second season and that a third season has been greenlit.

  • Marvel finally confirmed VisionQuest, with Paul Bettany making a surprise appearance at the convention. The show debuts in 2026 and also stars James Spader as Ultron, Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E., Jonathan Sayer as U, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., and Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd. Marvel is billing it as the conclusion of a trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021, and continued last year with Agatha All Along.

  • Moving on to animation, X-Men ‘97 shared a first look trailer to those in attendance, and Marvel confirmed the series will release next summer. Winderbaum also teased that he is already viewing animatics for season 3 and that they are in active discussions about fourth and fifth seasons.

  • Original X-Men: The Animated Series creators Eric and Julia Lewald were also on hand and will be serving as executive producers (along with original series director Larry Houston) for season 2.

  • Last but not least, audiences got a glimpse at season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The footage revealed that Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil and that Venom will be introduced in season 2. Season 2 is slated for next Fall.

  • One non-NYCC bit of news— Michael Waldron clarified his role in writing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars while promoting Chad Powers in an interview with The Wrap.

Yes, I am [helping on both Avengers movies]. I’ve been back and forth from London, helping that team out while in post on “Chad Powers.”

“Kang Dynasty” was Jeff Loveness, my friend, who was writing that with Destin Daniel Cretton, who’s now doing “Spider Man: Brand New Day.” Because I was writing the movie after that but there wasn’t a filmmaker attached yet, I was just involved in all those conversations. When that movie went away, I was working on what would become “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” for a time, and then they brought in the Russos and Steve McFeely right at the time we were going to make “Chad Powers.” As those guys got in and wrapped their hands around what these movies were going to be, I was off doing this insane thing, and when I finished, there was an opportunity for me to to come back in and get to know Joe and Anthony and Steve and really just help however I could. That’s what I’m trying to do is just support them.

BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

  • The first trailer for the fourth season of Invincible was shared at NYCC by Amazon Prime Video. It also premieres in what is looking to be a stacked March 2026.

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms revealed its first trailer at NYCC. The series, set approximately 70 years after House of the Dragon and 100 years before Game of Thrones, will consist of six episodes and premiere on January 18th.

  • For the first time ever, the iconic Batman: Knightfall comic (the comic that made me into a comic book reader!) is being adapted into a series of animated movies. No casting has been revealed yet, but the first movie will be written by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural) and directed by Jeff Wamester (Kite Man: Hell Yeah!). Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall premieres in 2026.

TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK

  • Hollywood insider Jeff Snieder is reporting that Jake Schreier’s X-Men movie is the choice to fill the May 5, 2028, release date currently being held by Marvel Studios. That month will mark 20 years since the birth of the MCU with Iron Man.

Phew… and that will be a wrap for the busiest week we’ve had in quite a while. Things will likely quiet down again for the next two months. In the meantime, feel free to join a bunch of other like-minded FFW listeners over on our Discord server, talking about anything and everything related to the MCU. What project are you most looking forward to in 2026?

Have a great week,
