The Sunday Post: A Vision for the Future

Hello, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post. In case you missed it, the Marvel Television Special Presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill was released last week. Kyle and Robby shared all their thoughts on the pod, and I wrote a full alternate review, as well. Please check those out!

With Daredevil: Born Again and the Punisher special now in the rearview mirror, the podcast will be going on a temporary hiatus, at least on the main feed. Now is the perfect time to give FFW+ a try if you haven’t already. There are a lot of fun bonus episodes (Screensaver, Marvel Comics 101, and many more) planned while fans wait for the second season of X-Men ‘97 to launch. Of course, if something major pops up (say an Avengers: Doomsday trailer), the guys will be sure to record their first impressions for all listeners.

While the guys may be taking a few weeks off, I won’t be going anywhere. Today’s post is being written after 8 hours on the softball field with my daughter, and next week I’ll be writing while on vacation. The news stops for nobody. Speaking of which, let’s check out what happened last week over at…

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

  • VisionQuest has a release date. The Paul Bettany-starring show was featured heavily at the Disney Upfronts/ Upfronts are an industry event for networks to try and pre-sell advertising based on the shows they have coming in the next 12 months. The series (billed as the conclusion to a trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along) will premier on October 14th.

  • Paul Bettany teased the series further in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz. Read the Deadline report on what Bettany said here.

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day released a new poster and featurette last week. The behind-the-scenes look focused on the plethora of practical in-camera stunts done for the movie.

  • The Punisher: One Last Kill was a very personal project for co-writer/star Jon Bernthal. Entertainment Weekly interviewed Bernthal and co-writer/director Reinaldo Marcus Green for a peek behind the curtain. It is a must read for fans.

BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

  • More DC news this week, as director Matt Reeves officially confirmed the additions of Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance to the cast of The Batman Part II. Reeves announced the addition of Brian Tyree Henry (Eternals) also.

  • Late Sunday, James Gunn announced on social media that there will be a new teaser released tomorrow for Lanterns. For the latest on all of these DCU updates, please check out The Sons of Gunn podcast, part of the Friends From Work Podcast Network.

TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK

  • I am hearing that Jake Schreier’s X-Men movie is aiming to start filming in February 2027. That would appear to be consistent with other rumors that have suggested the movie is targeting May 2028 for its release.

No comic book pick this week, so that is going to do it for today’s Post. Sadly, it does not appear that the Avengers: Doomsday teaser is imminent despite rampant speculation. So next week’s holiday edition of the newsletter might be short and sweet barring unexpected news. Either way, I’ll see you back here next Sunday.

Have a great week,

-Greg
