The Sunday Post: Back in the Saddle
Hello again, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post. After a week off as Robby adjusted to life as a new Dad, Friends From Work returned on Thursday with a brand-new episode covering a variety of topics. If you missed it, check it out here. And FFW+ subscribers were treated to another excellent interview from Robby with a comics creator- this time the great Ryan North! Robby’s interviews alone are worth the price of a subscription.
As Marvel settles into another quiet period (at least until that rumored Avengers: Doomsday trailer next month), the main feed of the podcast will most likely be quiet for the next few weeks through the holidays. But FFW+ will continue rolling along, including the second episode of Kyle, Listen!, featuring guest host (and longtime FFW listener) Neil Scharnick tomorrow.
Now onto…
THE WATERCOOLER
THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
VisionQuest added to its cast last week, as actors Lauren Morais and Diane Morgan (Cunk on Earth) joined the series. According to an exclusive Variety report, Morais is playing Lisa Molinari (a comics character with ties to Thomas Shepherd), and Morgan is playing an associate of Paladin (a mercenary in the comics who Todd Stashwick plays in VisionQuest).
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for additional photography next spring, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. The Russo Brothers and their production company, AGBO, are currently in post-production on the movie with plans to return to the set for pickups and reshoots just ahead of cameras rolling on Avengers: Secret Wars next summer.
In an interview with Deadline, Ryan Coogler confirmed that the next project he is working on is Black Panther 3. The post-Secret Wars era of the MCU appears to be taking shape.
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE
One of the most anticipated movies of 2026, Toy Story 5, revealed its first teaser trailer last week, giving fans a first look at the movie’s villain, a tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee (Past Lives). Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release on June 19th, 2026.
According to a report in The Wrap, Brainiac will be the villain in DC’s Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow. Production is scheduled to begin next April in Atlanta. Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release on July 9th, 2027.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
Nexus Point News, an increasingly reliable source of CBM news, debuted a new feature called “Off The Record”, where they report on rumors they have heard but have been unable to confirm. To kick off the new segment, Editor-in-Chief Demet Koc has heard that Doctor Strange 3 is in active early development at Marvel Studios. Based on her sources, star Benedict Cumberbatch is taking a more active role behind the scenes on the project, and production could begin after Avengers: Secret Wars wraps filming next year.
PANEL BOUND COMICS PICK OF THE WEEK
HELLBOY OMNIBUS BOXED SET
This one is a bit of a change-up. Over the last decade or so, as I’ve reacquainted myself with the wonderful world of comics, I’ve become aware of several inexcusable gaps in my library. Over the last year or so, I’ve begun to actively remedy that. I’ll probably end up discussing a number of those titles here, but today I want to highlight the one I’m currently devouring: Mike Mignola’s Hellboy.
I’m a big fan of Guillermo del Toro, which means I saw the Hellboy movies long ago. And because I’m a big fan of Guillermo del Toro, I enjoyed both of them. I knew they were based on comics, and I know those were supposed to be great. But I never really had a reason to chase them down. Lucky for me, Joe Pate of Austin Books and Comics is a hell of a salesman.
And man, what a blast of a book. I don’t know whether I like Mike Mignola more as a writer or an artist here. Luckily, I don’t have to choose. The movies were fun superhero-adjacent fare, but these comics are like Indiana Jones meets Sherlock Holmes meets The Sandman. As someone who quite likes all those things, this makes for a real gem of a comic for me. Based on Joe’s hearty recommendation, I went ahead and sprung for the full four-volume set of the main series. I’m very glad I did because I’ve been flying through it ever since it came in.
If you’re intrigued, you can find this very nice box set of all four at Panel Bound Comics for a great deal. And as always, you can use our code “FRIENDSFROMWORK” for an extra few bucks off.
RE
Thanks, Robby! That’s a wrap for this edition of TSP. I hope everyone has a great week.
