The Sunday Post: Dance with the Devil

Hello, friends, and welcome back to the latest edition of The Sunday Post. The rumors were true- fans were finally treated to the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day last week. It featured the returns of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Michael Mando (!), Mark Ruffalo (!!), Jon Bernthal (!!!) plus the addition of Tramell Tillman to the cast. There were glimpses of Boomerang, Tarantula, organic webs, and ninjas. It all prompted an emergency episode of the podcast with Kyle and Robby.

This week features the return of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Daredevil: Born Again’s second season begins Tuesday night at 9 pm ET. Watch along, and then head over to the podcast where Robby and Kyle will be waiting with their complete premiere breakdown. I will have a review of the entire season published Tuesday night, as well. Friends From Work will have things covered from every angle.

Later in the week, a very special Comic’s Corner episode with some special guest hosts will be out on FFW+. Time to head over to…

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

  • Just in case you missed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, you can check it out in the link above. But my guess is you didn’t. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer shattered the previous record for views in the first 24 hours (previously held by the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl trailer) with 718 million views.

  • Just days away from the premiere of season 2, the cast and crew of Daredevil: Born Again have already begun shooting season 3 on the streets of New York. The third season is expected to be released in 2027.

  • Marvel Studios shifted around some post-Secret Wars release dates last week. As reported in The Wrap, the previously announced release date of February 18th, 2028 has been shifted to July 28th, 2028. The studio also added new release dates on May 4th, 2029 and July 13th, 2029. And, as reported by Deadline, the previously held date of November 10th, 2028 has been removed from the calendar. So here is the complete upcoming movie schedule from Marvel Studios.

BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

  • Project Hail Mary stormed into theaters over the weekend, destroying box office expectations to the tune of more than $80 million domestically, and nearly $141 million worldwide. Amaze, amaze, amaze. I saw the movie last night, and it is a stellar adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel with some incredible visuals and an awesome score from friend of the podcast Daniel Pemberton. Check out this free Screensaver Plus episode that Kyle hosted last week with special guest Tanner Burge!

TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK

  • So what exactly is going to fill those five untitled Marvel slots on the release calendar for 2028 and 2029? Nobody can say for certain, but based on the information we have, some rumors we have heard, and some educated guesses, it might go something like this:

    • The X-Men are guaranteed to be a major focal point of the next Saga, and Jake Schreier’s X-Men film is already in pre-production. The odds are that it will be the first movie released in 2028, occupying the May slot.

    • Based on our intel here at FFW, the sequels that follow will all feature mutants in some form or fashion. July 2028 could be the follow-up to this summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. December could be Ryan Coogler’s highly-anticipated Black Panther 3.

    • May 2029 would be nearly four years since The Fantastic Four: First Steps and a prime opportunity for a proper sequel, and July 2029 makes sense for the fourth installment of the Deadpool series.

    • Of course, nothing is guaranteed and everything is subject to change. But wouldn’t that be an exciting start to the next era of Marvel Studios? Join the discussion over on Discord and let me know.

PANEL BOUND COMICS PICK OF THE WEEK

DEVIL'S REIGN OMNIBUS

What better way to prepare for this season of Daredevil: Born Again than to read one of the comics that inspired the season? If you don’t believe me, listen to lead producer Sana Amanat and showrunner Dario Scardapane talk about the influences on season 2 in this interview.

Head over to Panel Bound Comics and grab the entire event omnibus for just $75. Or, if that is a little out of your price range, the collected trade paperback for the main event is available for just $30. As always, remember to use code “FRIENDSFROMWORK” for an additional discount off those prices!

That’s going to do it for today. It is a huge week for Marvel and FFW. Check out Daredevil: Born Again on Tuesday night (trust me- it’s really good) and stay connected through the podcast and Discord. Have a great week!
