The Sunday Post: Elsewhere in the Multiverse...
Hello again, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post, where in an alternate universe this weekend may have looked quite a bit different. Back in 2022, at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios announced that Avengers: Secret Wars would be released in theaters this weekend, but as we all know, things shifted, and the movie is still a little more than two years away.
Just over two years ago, Marvel Studios moved Blade into the same release slot, and of course, that did not happen either. At least with Secret Wars, we still have a solid future release date, but we are no closer to knowing when Blade will return to the big screen.
Alas, there was no big Marvel Studios release this week. The next movie is still more than 250 days away, and the next Disney+ project is not until 2026. Looking for some good news? Well, Kyle and Robby should be back this week! Robby has an exclusive interview with “Fantastic Four” writer Ryan North for FFW+ listeners, and main feed listeners will hear a new The Fantastic Four: First Steps reflection episode, now that the movie is streaming on Disney+.
For some more good news, let’s head over to…
THE WATERCOOLER
THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
After a couple of weeks of rumors, Collider confirmed through multiple sources that the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will be released next month, in time to be shown ahead of screenings for Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is in theaters on December 19th. The exact date of the trailer is not known, but my educated guess is December 18th, exactly one year before the movie’s release date.
Marvel released a new teaser for Wonder Man, showcasing the first (brief) glimpse at Simon Williams’s powers. Wonder Man premieres on January 27th.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now available to watch on Disney+. Celebrate the occasion by checking out this endearing featurette about the cameo appearances from the cast of 1994’s lost Fantastic Four film.
OK, so there was no new Avengers movie released this weekend, but would you settle for a LEGO Avengers trailer? The two-part animated LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails debuts this Friday on Disney+.
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE
I know I covered Stranger Things in this space last week, but Netflix released the first five minutes of the final season on Friday, and it was sensational. If that doesn’t get you fired up for November 26th, nothing will.
The first teaser for the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic Michael was released last week by Universal Pictures. The movie’s release date is April 24th, 2026.
An exciting new trailer for season 2 of Percy Jackson & The Olympians debuted last week. The two-episode premiere is on December 10th.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
Remember the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the one with an entire arena full of Kangs? Well, we might never get a follow-up on that thanks to Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles, but a new rumor this week suggests we might be getting a room full of Doctor Doom variants instead in Avengers: Doomsday.
That’s a wrap for today. Before I go, I want to do something I rarely do- plug something from outside the MCU. The first two episodes of the new Apple TV series Plur1bus debuted on Friday, and it immediately became one of the best television pilots I have ever watched. Created by Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) and starring Rhea Seahorn (Better Call Saul), the show is equal parts drama, thriller, and sci-fi, at least in these first two episodes. I don’t want to say any more for fear of spoiling something, but if you are looking for a new show to fill the void while waiting for Wonder Man, I highly recommend checking this show out.
Have a great week,
-Greg
