Hello, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post, coming to you a little later than usual as I just got done showing my kids X-Men: Days of Future Past for the first time. Tonight, I have updates on the Marvel San Diego Comic-Con schedule, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and a talented young actress who recently met with X-Men director Jake Schreier.
But first, some Friends From Work updates. Last week, Kyle and Robby unleashed an epic 90-minute podcast covering everything from the first four episodes of X-Men ‘97 season 2 to burning listener questions about Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Sandwiched in the middle was an exclusive chat with the executive producers of X-Men ‘97 (and the creators of X-Men: The Animated Series) Eric and Julia Lewald. If you missed it, check out the video above. They were gracious with their time, and a pleasure to chat with.
This week on the pod, a familiar FFW tradition: “Spider-Man: The Saga So Far”, where Robby and Kyle trace Peter Parker’s journey from Captain America: Civil War all the way through Spider-Man: No Way Home. THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
Marvel Studios is officially returning to Hall H at 8:30pm ET on July 25th with an exclusive panel featuring Kevin Feige and “special guests from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for an exclusive look at what’s next.”
Liza Colon-Zayas confirmed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she is playing a detective in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and all signs point to her character being Jean DeWolff.
Michael Giacchino released a thirty-second preview of the track “Suite New Day” from his Spider-Man: Brand New Day score. Doubt Giacchino at your own risk- I’m expecting another killer score.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II received a well-deserved Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Simon Williams in Wonder Man. Kudos to the entire creative team beyond the show.
Inde Navarrette, star of the summer sensation Obsession, confirmed in an interview with Nylon that she met with X-Men director Jake Schreier recently. Could a casting announcement for the movie be in the cards for San Diego?
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE
HBO Max announced that there will be a Lanterns panel at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. The show is scheduled to premiere on August 16th.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
A new listing on the Writer’s Guild of America West website shows Michael Waldron (Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) as a writer on an (as yet unannounced) Nova series. Could it be true? Last we heard, Waldron had been working closely with Steven McFeely on the Avengers: Doomsday script. Maybe we’ll find out more at SDCC, or next month at D23.
