The Sunday Post: Mama Knows Best
Hello, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post on this Mother’s Day Sunday. It may sound cliche, but moms really are the true superheroes in our world. So to Colleen, Kandace, Annika, and the many, many other moms out there in the Friends From Work community and beyond, thank you for everything you do!
Back in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daredevil: Born Again finished off one of the best seasons of Marvel Television ever last week. Kyle and Robby were there the following day to recap it all and put everything in perspective. They’ll be right back at it on Tuesday when The Punisher: One Last Kill premieres. The embargo on social media reactions drops tomorrow night, and I will have a full written review on Tuesday, as well.
After that, things will start to slow down heading into Memorial Day and the start of summer. At least, until the premiere of X-Men ‘97 season 2 and the July 31st release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Now, for all the latest news and notes from around the MCU, let’s walk down to…
THE WATERCOOLER
THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

The incredible Judith Light (Who’s the Boss?) confirmed to the Today show on Saturday that she has been cast in The Punisher: One Last Kill. If you were looking closely, there is one brief glimpse of her in the trailer. It is widely believed that she is paying Ma Gnucci, head of the Gnucci crime family. The Gnucci family has not been mentioned since the very first episode of The Punisher back in 2017.
As mentioned earlier, Daredevil: Born Again just wrapped an impressive second season on Disney+. Executive producer Dario Scardapane talked to Entertainment Weekly about the explosive revelations in the finale, and looked ahead to what might be in store for season 3. The third season is in production now and expected to wrap filming in July.
Captain America: Civil War celebrated its 10th anniversary last week, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo hosted a screening and discussion with Comic Book Resources deputy editor Sean O’Connell to commemorate the occasion. Watch the nearly 50-minute chat at the link above.
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

It was yet another week filled with news out of James Gunn’s DCU. According to Deadline, a Deathstroke and Bane movie is starting to gain traction at the studio, with Peacemaker director Greg Mottola the frontrunner to direct. Additionally, Matt Reeves shared the first images of camera tests for The Batman Part II as it ramps up to film this fall. For more on this, and other DC news, make sure to check out The Sons of Gunn podcast, part of the Friends From Work Podcast Network.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
A prominent social media “scooper” claims that Wagner Moura (most recently heard voicing Brander Lawson in the acclaimed Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord) is in discussions with Marvel to play the role of Sebastian Shaw in the upcoming X-Men movie directed by Jake Schreier.
PANEL BOUND COMICS PICK OF THE WEEK
Invincible Hardcover Compendium Volume 1-3 Bundle

Are you watching Invincible on Amazon Prime Video? The excellent animated series featuring the voices of Steven Yeun and J.K. Simmons just wrapped its fourth season. Invincible, from my understanding, is a pretty faithful adaptation of the comic source material, and our friends at Panel Bound Comics have the incredible hardcover compendiums back in stock right now.
They may not be cheap, but consider that you are getting over 140 issues and over 3000 pages of content with this collection. If you don’t want to wait for the next season of the show (the first four seasons cover roughly 90 issues of the comic), you should think about ordering this bundle. And you can use code “FRIENDSFROMWORK” at checkout for an additional discount.
That’s all for today. Once again, Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there. Please join us on Discord Tuesday night to watch The Punisher: One Last Kill.
Have a great week!
-Greg
