The Sunday Post: MCU Look Ahead

Welcome back, friends! I thought I would try something different with this week’s newsletter, given the lack of noteworthy news over the last seven days. Instead of our regular Watercooler sections, I will take a look at where things stand (as of now) for every MCU project expected between now and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.

But first, a couple of quick reminders, starting with a podcast update. In sticking with the theme of looking forward, the boys are back together this week to talk about what their hopes are for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That episode will be released tomorrow for FFW+ subscribers and then on the main feed on Thursday.

Also, a quick plug for our partners at Homage and Panel Bound Comics. Homage is currently running a limited-time sale, with all of its Marvel merch 20% off. Not to be outdone, PBC’s big 50% off Publisher Sale is still ongoing, and remember to use code “FRIENDSFROMWORK” for an additional discount on any purchase.

Now, let’s get to the schedule.

2025

December: Wonder Man

  • For a project that is fast approaching, we know surprisingly little about Wonder Man. The longest look we’ve had at the series was a year ago, when Marvel released a “Look Ahead” trailer before the finale of Agatha All Along. But that could all change this weekend at New York Comic Con. Brad Winderbaum is expected to be in attendance at the Marvel Television and Animation panel, and my expectation is that a teaser trailer for Wonder Man will be featured. Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest (Cretton directs two of the series’s 8 episodes) and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams. The rest of the cast includes Ed Harris, Ben Kingsley, Demetrius Grosse, and Arian Moayed.

2026

Spring: The Punisher Special Presentation

  • It is not entirely clear if the Punisher special filmed this summer will take place before or after the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Jon Bernthal wrote the script, and the series is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who previously worked with Bernthal on HBO’s We Own This City.

March: Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

  • Entertainment Weekly recently confirmed that season 2 is expected to debut next March. Featuring the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, alongside returning cast members Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Wilson Bethel, and more, the second season promises to be even more intense than the first. Both the Punisher special and the new season of Born Again should be heavily featured at NYCC.

Undated: X-Men ‘97 Season 2

  • Another project I think we will get an update on at NYCC is X-Men ‘97. While making the press rounds for Marvel Zombies, Winderbaum confirmed that the plan is to release new seasons annually for this show and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Undated: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2

  • Speaking of season 2 of YFNSM, the creator and showrunner, Jeff Trammell, confirmed that Spider-Gwen will be debuting in the second season shortly after the first season ended. This is another project that could be featured at NYCC.

July 31st: Spider-Man: Brand New Day

  • The next MCU movie is just over 300 days away. Tom Holland, Zendaya, and an ever-growing cast that reportedly includes Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman continue to film in the UK after shutting down for a brief period after Holland suffered a concussion performing a stunt. Also directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day could deliver its first teaser trailer at next year’s Super Bowl, if not before.

Fall: VisionQuest

  • The final project that I think could be teased at NYCC is VisionQuest. Star Paul Bettany recently confirmed that he views the show as the third piece of a trilogy that began with WandaVision. The show was created, written, and directed by Terry Matalas. Matalas is often credited with reviving Star Trek: Picard after a shaky first season. This show also features the return of James Spader as Ultron.

December 18th: Avengers: Doomsday

  • The Russo Brothers wrapped principal photography recently on Doomsday, over 450 days before the movie’s release date. That leaves a significant amount of time for post-production, as well as any reshoots and pickups needed to fine-tune the blockbuster. For comparison, Avengers: Infinity War had fewer than 300 days in post. The first teaser trailer may not be far away either; there is speculation it could be attached to Avatar: Fire & Ash in December.

2027

Spring: Daredevil: Born Again Season 3

  • Recently confirmed by Brad Winderbaum, the third season of the show is expected to film in early 2026 in preparation for release around the same time of year as seasons 1 and 2.

Undated: X-Men ‘97 Season 3 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 3

  • Both of these shows are hits for Marvel and Disney+, and Marvel is expected to put enough money into these projects to allow them to stick to an annual release schedule.

TBD: Marvel Zombies Season 2

  • Early viewership numbers for Marvel Zombies have exceeded Disney’s internal expectations, according to multiple reports. That increases the likelihood of a second season (creator Bryan Andrews has said that a second season featuring Bucky Barnes has already been mapped). 2027 would be a reasonable target date if it comes to fruition.

Fall: Untitled Marvel Television Project

  • Marvel executives are expected to review treatments and pitches for new television projects in early 2026 and pick one to put into production. If that happens, that show would probably debut in 2027 before Secret Wars. Will it be Blonde Phantom? Champions? Strange Academy? A second season for Hawkeye? It is impossible to say for sure, but any new project announcement would be exciting.

December 17th: Avengers: Secret Wars

  • All roads lead to Secret Wars. The second part of this new Avengers duology is still over 800 days away, but is expected to start filming early in 2026. Until recently, there was still one untitled movie project for Marvel scheduled for July 23rd, 2027, but the announcement of The Simpsons Movie 2 on that date took that off the board for Marvel. Which means there will be no new movies between Doomsday and Secret Wars. It also means that Secret Wars will mark the 40th movie in the MCU.

Barring something unexpected, and you can never rule anything out, that is everything fans should expect over the rest of the Multiverse Saga. Just three movies, 4-5 new seasons of television, and a handful of animation projects. What do you think? Are you excited? Are there any projects that you wish were on the schedule before Secret Wars? Will fewer projects (and longer post-production schedules) help continue the trend of high-quality content that defined 2025 for Marvel Studios? Hop on over to Discord and let me know!

Thanks for reading; see you back here next week with all the news that breaks at New York Comic Con!
