The Sunday Post: Spooky Season

Welcome back, friends, to The Sunday Post. With Halloween right around the corner, are you celebrating with a favorite Marvel rewatch? Werewolf By Night? Agatha All Along? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Personally, I have reached the Multiverse Saga in my complete rewatch I began a couple of months ago. One of Marvel’s most divisive movies, Eternals, is up next. I’ve only seen it in full once since theaters, so I’ll be curious to see if my opinion changes much this time around.

On FFW+, the focus is shifting back towards comics. Tomorrow, Kyle and Robby return to “Marvel Comics 101” to cover Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s iconic “Daredevil: Born Again.” Next week, tentatively, Robby has an exclusive interview with the author of Marvel’s current “Fantastic Four” and “One World Under Doom” arcs, Ryan North!

On the main Friends From Work feed, Thursday’s episode will be Kyle and Robby’s commentary track for 2012’s The Avengers (previously exclusive to FFW+), and next week will feature a fresh episode reflecting on The Fantastic Four: First Steps to celebrate its release on Disney+.

Speaking of which, onto…

THE WATERCOOLER

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU

  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming to Disney+ on November 5th, and will join the collection of Marvel movies available in the “IMAX Enhanced” format.

  • InStyle magazine profiled Elizabeth Olsen last week, and Olsen had a lot to say about her role as Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, and pushed back on some of the criticism the MCU receives in pop culture.

“Making the films is joyful. And goofy. It’s ridiculous. We're grown people behaving like children on a playground. We're flying. We're shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I've gotten to return to so many times over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I'd jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.

It's the consistency of a community and a job, which is hard to find. The insane camera movement, stunt work, and special effects, visual effects that are happening in real time. It’s a lot of coordination, it's hundreds and hundreds of people on set, and it's a powerful thing to be a part of all those people working towards one goal. The people doing the visual effects are artists. It’s financial security, I can make choices. It’s offered me value, and that's useful when making independent movies.

The soul, the spirit, the heart is fulfilled doing it. It does mean something. I care about the acting being great—everyone does. There are hundreds of people doing their job to the highest degree. That’s why it's frustrating for them to not be acknowledged for the artistry that is involved. A lot happens in visual effects afterwards—‘cause we can't actually fly, you know?”

Elizabeth Olsen to InStyle
  • Is it possible to spoil your own surprise appearance in an MCU movie? Gwyneth Paltrow, infamous for not always remembering which MCU movies she has appeared in, was the keynote speaker at Brown University for a Family Weekend event. During a post-event Q&A, Paltrow mentioned that she ”might be in another Marvel movie,” while discussing future projects.

  • Set videos from Spider-Man: Brand New Day confirm that both Mark Ruffalo and Sadie Sink have arrived in the UK to film scenes for the movie.

  • Jeremy Renner, in an interview with The Playlist, shared some optimism about the possibility of a season 2 for Hawkeye. Renner said, “We got to where we’re trying to do the second season. And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.”

BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

  • The buzz is building to a crescendo for the latest show from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan and star Rhea Seahorn. Titled Plur1bus, the first full trailer was released last week. Critics have already screened the show, and I’ve seen more than one suggest that the show will be a “Show of the Year” contender.

TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK

  • Previously, we’ve heard rumors that the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday could be released to coincide with Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is set for release on December 19th. December 18th will mark exactly one year before Doomsday hits theaters.

Now, the social media user “Trailer Track,” who has been tracking trailer releases for almost a decade, is hearing that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could also be looking at that time frame for a teaser trailer. Would Marvel Studios start promoting both movies in December? Or is it more likely that one trailer is held back for Super Bowl Sunday in February? Either way, the odds are increasing that at least one of next year’s big Marvel blockbusters will release a trailer before the year ends.

That’s all I have for you this week. Please continue to visit our promotional partners at Homage and Panel Bound Comics, and join our lively MCU discussions over on Discord!

Have a great week!
