The Sunday Post: The Break Room
Hello, friends, and welcome back to The Sunday Post. Do you remember where you were seven years ago today? Chances are, if you are reading this newsletter, you do because seven years ago today Avengers: Endgame was released in theaters worldwide. The movie crushed several box office records that weekend that still stand today, and is the second-highest grossing film of all time. Marvel Studios announced last year that it will be re-releasing Endgame on September 25th of this year, and the Russo Brothers revealed recently at CinemaCon that the re-release will feature new footage set in the “Avengers: Doomsday story” to help create a “bridge” between the two.
This is the perfect time to introduce the latest, and greatest, addition to the Friends From Work website- The Break Room. From the brain of Robby Earle (with a little bit of help from yours truly), The Break Room will be your new one-stop shop for the recommended FFW Watch Order. But it is so much more than that. Robby has also curated 18+ (awesome) mixes for anyone wanting a shorter challenge. Need a refresher on the post-Endgame projects that matter for Avengers: Doomsday? Check out our “Shortcut Through the Multiverse”. Only interested in tracking the stories of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark? “Starks and Stripes” is the ticket. Just in a Spider-Man type of mood? “Spider-Men” is the mix for you. And that is not all- the site is still a work-in-progress, and will eventually include a series of comics reading orders too, designed for anyone who wants to read the inspiration for everything you’ve been watching. Please check it out, and send your feedback our way.
Looking to the week ahead, Kyle and Robby will have a bonus podcast out tomorrow on FFW+ with their thoughts on the trailer for Punisher: One Last Kill. Tuesday night brings the penultimate episode of Daredevil: Born Again. Buckle up- it is another doozy. Keep your podcast feeds refreshed on Wednesday while you wait for the guys to record and upload their impressions.
It was a fairly eventful week, so for all of the news you missed, let’s head over to…
THE WATERCOOLER
THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
For the first time since 2024, Marvel Studios is returning to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, as exclusively revealed by The Wrap. You can bet Kevin Feige and his team will want to bring the house down on Saturday night at SDCC. I would expect a heavy presence from Avengers: Doomsday and maybe some updates on the X-Men movie currently in pre-production.
Jessica Jones is back! The heroine made her long awaited return in last week’s episode of Daredevil: Born Again and she is not done yet.
In sad news, Andy Park, longtime director of visual development for Marvel Studios, announced on social media that he was laid off as part of significant cuts at the Walt Disney Company. Andy, a one-time guest on the podcast, was a tremendous asset to Marvel over the past sixteen years and will be missed. Ryan Meinerding will remain the head of visual development at Marvel Studios moving forward.
Mark your calendars. The Tribeca Film Festival announced that the second season of X-Men ‘97 will premiere at the festival on June 13th.
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE
After a strong 2025 for DC Studios, beginning with the conclusion of Creature Commandos in January, through Superman’s triumphant return in July, and ending with the second season of Peacemaker in the fall, it has mostly been crickets from James Gunn and his team so far in 2026.
But that should all change soon. Supergirl is less than two months away, the first trailer for Lanterns (out in August) debuted earlier this year, and last week the first teaser trailer for Clayface debuted. The horror film is scheduled for release just in time for Halloween later this year. Your dynamic duo of Jaylen and Matt over at The Sons of Gunn podcast were traveling last week, but will return this week with all their thoughts, questions, and theories after watching the trailer. The Sons of Gunn podcast is part of the Friends From Work Podcast Network.
Saturday night at CCXP Mexico (yet another popular annual fan convention), Amazon Prime Video released the latest trailer for Spider-Noir. The eight-episode series (available in both color and black-and-white) premieres on May 27th.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
There are a lot (I mean- a whole lot) of very spoilery set photos going around right now on social media related to season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again. I will not be sharing those here, but consider this a friendly PSA if you are trying to avoid being spoiled.
The internet community continues to buzz with speculation that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer release could be imminent. Insider Daniel Richtman suggested it is “close” (really going out on a limb there) and other scoopers have said similar things. The most likely scenario remains, in my opinion, that it will drop online the week before The Mandalorian and Grogu debuts in theaters. That would place the trailer somewhere between May 18th and May 22nd. Of course, I hope it is much sooner than that.
That’s a wrap on another edition of The Sunday Post. Please don’t forget to check out The Break Room and tune in Tuesday night at 9pm ET for the penultimate episode of Daredevil: Born Again. See you back here next Sunday.
Have a great week,
-Greg
