Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there in our community and beyond, and welcome back to The Sunday Post. Coming up, a look at the brand-new, explosive second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, some new details on X-Men ‘97 season 2, and beyond the MCU it is Supergirl week! But first, a quick Friends From Work update.

THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
To celebrate tickets going on sale for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony dropped the second full trailer for the movie, along with a slew of new PLF-screen specific posters. It was also revealed that parts of BND were filmed specifically with Screen X cameras. Fans responded with the best presales for any movie in at least five years, and the movie is now tracking to open with north of $200 million domestically.
Esquire UK did an extensive profile on Tom Holland last week. Holland talks about the time away from Spider-Man after No Way Home, how much fun it was to make this new movie, what he sees as the future for the character, and so much more.
“This movie is a real mystery and for a large portion of the film, even Spider-Man is a little bit at odds and lost and is like, ‘What is going on?’ We’re just trying to find ways to make this movie feel like a detective movie.”
Beef creator/director Lee Sung Jin spoke to Deadline about what it is like writing the upcoming script for the next X-Men movie, the first to be set inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Truthfully, it’s [the] same parameters on this project, which is so exciting. I’d say there were actually more parameters on Thunderbolts because it was plugging into an existing arc and existing characters, whereas with X-Men, Kevin [Feige] just wants to take a big swing and start anew, not be beholden to any of the movies that have come before. And Jake Schreier has such a clear vision in terms of wanting to get back to character first, and to what is exciting about those early [Chris] Claremont-run comics, which was all about team dynamics. There were a lot of soapy elements to those comics. We’ve been in the room every day together. Kevin and Louis [D’Esposito] are so dialed in, and they have such incredible instincts that it’s been fun to just blue-sky.
I’m such a big fan of that IP of the comics. My dad and I, every Saturday morning, used to watch the show on television, so to be able to look around this Marvel conference room and have every X-Men character on the board and be able to spitball and freestyle on, ‘What about this person?’ It’s so emboldening, because you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, this isn’t going to be a safe movie. This is actually going to be a really exciting new take.’”
X-Men ‘97 is just ten days away, and the highly anticipated second season is debuting with a special three-episode premiere on July 1st. All nine episode titles have also been revealed. There are several clever nods to the original animated series among the titles (as pointed out to me by FFW+ contributor Neil Scharnick).
2.1 “Days of Past Future”
2.2 “A Force to be Reckoned With”
2.3 “Rise of Apocalypse - Part I
2.4 “Rise of Apocalypse - Part II
2.5 “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs”
2.6 “Danger.Exe”
2.7 “Strange Land, Savage Heart”
2.8 “The Dead Man’s Hand”
2.9 “Survival of the Fittest”
The Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. gave an exclusive interview to Sean O’Connell of CBR while in attendance at SXSW London about both their history and their future in the MCU, and talk quickly turned to Avengers: Doomsday. Joe Russo gave the movie high praise.
“There are a lot of surprises in this. And I think [Doomsday is] the most emotionally complex of all of them. And in a lot of ways, the most mature of all of them.”
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE

Supergirl is out in theaters this week. The social media embargo was moved up and lifted last week, with mostly positive reviews from critics and influencers who had a chance to see the movie early. The review embargo ends on Wednesday at noon, and I will have a “Performance Review” ready to go with all my first impressions. And of course, please make sure to check out The Sons of Gunn, a podcast in the Friends From Work Podcast Network, where Matt and Jaylen will have wall-to-wall coverage of the movie in the weeks to come.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
There haven’t been a ton of new rumors lately, maybe partially because everyone has been consumed by multiple (real) leaks related to both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. So here is a small rumor for BND- Liza Colon-Zayas, who was cast for the movie all the way back in May 2025 but has been absent (as far as I can tell) from the trailers, is rumored to be playing Jean DeWolff, a NYC police detective who made her Marvel Comics debut in 1976.
