The Sunday Post: With No Power...
Hello again, friends, and welcome to a special road trip edition of The Sunday Post. Yes, I am relaxing with the family after a busy day at the Kings Dominion amusement park just outside of Richmond, Virginia. So if today’s newsletter is a little more brief than usual, you can guess why.
In case you missed it, Robby and Kyle interviewed the amazing Newton Brothers about their work on Daredevil: Born Again last week and reflected on season 2 as a whole. The next few weeks may be quiet on the main feed as the guys recharge for X-Men ‘97 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but FFW+ listeners can look forward to more bonus content, so sign up if you haven’t already! From Screensaver coverage of The Mandalorian and Grogu and The Sheep Detectives to Marvel Comics 101 coverage of Joss Whedon’s “Astonishing X-Men”, there will be no shortage of content for paying subscribers.
For everyone else, the newsletter will continue publishing every Sunday, so stay subscribed for the latest news updates from Marvel Studios and beyond.
This week features updates from the DCU, Sony, and, of course, Marvel, so let’s get straight to…
THE WATERCOOLER
THIS WEEK IN THE MCU
Marvel’s Head of Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has added two new infinity stones to his personal gauntlet. According to a release, he will now be Marvel’s Head of Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise. Adding publishing to his portfolio is a big jump across mediums, but Kevin Feige expressed confidence in Winderbaum’s ability to take on these new responsibilities.
“Brad’s exceptional creative leadership and David’s deep experience in operations and digital innovation will be a powerful pairing as we begin building out the next 90 years of Marvel’s comic book legacy. Brad brings a proven ability to lead creative teams and craft ongoing, episodic narratives that resonate with our fans around the world, while David offers a strong track record of operational excellence and strategic growth. I’m excited for what they’ll be able to do together.”
BEYOND THE MULTIVERSE
The second full-length teaser for Lanterns was released last week, only two months after the first, even though the show is still three months away. I suspect that this was a bit of a course correction after the initial trailer received mixed reviews at best from the fan community. Regardless of the reasoning, this is definitely a more intriguing trailer, featuring a lot more green, a first look at Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) in the costume, and the reveal that Laura Linney (Ozark) has joined the cast. Yours truly will be making a guest appearance on The Sons of Gunn podcast (part of the Friends From Work Podcast Network) soon, so if you want more of my thoughts on Lanterns and everything else happening in the DCU, keep an eye out for that.
Sony, in conjunction with Amazon Prime Video, released the final (and in my opinion, best) trailer for Spider-Noir, which is only a few short days from release. All eight episodes will be available on May 27th.
The Boys concluded its five-season run with a polarizing (is there anything anymore that isn’t polarizing?) finale last week, and then dropped the first trailer for the new sequel prequel series starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. Vought Rising debuts in 2027.
TRUE BELIEVERS RUMOR OF THE WEEK
A leaked version of the X-Men ‘97 trailer shown recently at Comic Con Revolution in Ontario, Canada was posted to YouTube. I won’t link it here, but if you want to check it out, it is not hard to find. The world premiere of season 2 will be at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 13th, so the official trailer could debut any time.
PANEL BOUND COMICS PICK OF THE WEEK

GOTHAM CENTRAL OMNIBUS
Our friends at Panel Bound Comics are currently having a fantastic 50% off sale to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday, and the sale ends tomorrow! Act now, before it is too late, and grab one of the 130 books available at unbeatable prices.
That includes this Gotham Central omnibus, which I have been recommending to anyone who will listen for years now. Think of your favorite 90s/00s police procedural (Homicide: Life on the Street for me), but set it in Gotham City, and what you get is this book. Follow Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, and the rest of the GCPD as they navigate a city ravaged by the psychotic villains inspired by Batman, but without the Dark Knight’s help. All 40 issues of this award-winning series can be had for less than $50 once you use code “FRIENDSFROMWORK” at checkout.
That is all from me today. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day, and I’ll see y’all back here the same time next week.
-Greg
